It's summer. It's the season of fresh and dewy skin, and I'm here to give you the inside information on how to get it. Today I'm going to be sharing my secrets to radiant skin and how I achieve it daily in this season of glow. If you want to to see how I do it, keep reading!
//Face//
I always begin with clean and flawless skin because it is always smart to avoid an awkwardly textured base.
To begin, I prep my skin by washing my face with a bar of black soap.
Black soap is absolutely amazing for the following:
-even texture
-clearing dark spots + hyper-pigmentation
-hydrating dry skin
-calming skin irritations (that can cause the inflammation that we so want to avoid)
I absolutely love toning with apple cider vinegar for these reasons:
- It's a totally inexpensive method for insanely good results
-It balances the pH of skin
- It is a 24/7 exfoliator, as it breaks the bond between skin cells upon application
-It improves acne scarring
After a good wash, I moisturize + prime with the Bobbi Brown Face Base.
Despite the pricing found if you followed the link to peek, you can find this at smaller cosmetic stores and get the smaller size like I did for drum-roll please.... sixteen dollars! Ladies and gentlemen that is a total savings of 42 bucks. I personally like the smaller size because a little bit goes a long way and when I travel, the full-size is a definite hassle- for me at least. You do you! I adore the Face Base because, even when I'm a tad dehydrated (thanks summer), this moisturizer keeps me dewy, glowing and my skin nourished. If I wanted to skip foundation a day, I could, because it's just that good. Following, I like to use the MAC strobing cream on the high points of my face to create a pre-glow.
Now, after I've applied my base, I soak my beauty blender, slightly dry it and get ready for foundation. My all-time favorite summer foundation is the Laura Mercier Candle Glow Foundation.(I'm the shade Truffle')
This foundation is lightweight with seemingly good coverage. I have hyperpigmentation on the sides of my face, and this cover it pretty decently for a 'sheer to medium' coverage. A little goes a long way with this product, but it's also buildable if you aren't quite satisfied with the first layer of application.
This foundation is absolutely a masterpiece because:
- It's very light-weight (sometimes I forget I'm wearing foundation)
- It has a luminosity that makes you have a healthy glow from the inside out
-It creates a soft and airbrushed glow, that a highlighter alone can't achieve
To aid in producing radiance, I recommend using a sponge and not a brush. If you don't have a sponge, the foundation is easily applicable with the bounce of your fingertips.
Following foundation, I highlight the key points of my face.
I take the rich, gold shimmer from the above palette and apply it to the tip of my nose, my cheek-bones, and my Cupid's bow.
//Eyes//
Now for eyes! In the summer, my eyes turn a lighter shade of brown than during to rest of the year, so I usually do legitimate eye 'looks' during the summer, (aka me actually trying with shadow). I prep my lids with the Urban Decay Primer Potion. I love this primer because as a woman of color, I'm not much of a fan of eye primers that leave a chalky look on the lids. This primer is magic. It smoothes into the lid like a moisturizer, no awkward chalky look on the eyes.
Following, I use a lighter concealer so that my chosen eyeshadow hue shows up more effectively.
After the concealer, I set my lids with the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder, so that the shadow is able to sweep over my lids and not get caught in the texture of the concealer.
After I set, I use the orange shade on the afore-shown palette and sweep it across my entire lid. In the crease, I use the dark brown shade. Sometimes, If I really want to accentuate the glow, I'll add a tad of the gold that I used for my highlight in my tear duct.
Now that the shadow is done, I line my eyelids lightly with the Loreal Infallible liner, and use the Dior Show Mascara, for volumized and lifted lashes.
//Brows//
After eyes, I follow up with brows.
I used to use the Anastasia brow pomade, but I recently stopped because I prefer the 'boy-brow' look and not so much of the sleek 'Instagram' brow. To do this, I use the Anastasia Brow Wiz pencil (I'm the shade 'Ebony'). I begin by using the spoolie brush and do upward strokes on my brows. Following, I outline my brows with the pencil and finish off by making light strokes within to outline, to fill in any sparse areas.
Last but certainly not least, I set my face with the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray. I adore this spray because it maintains the dewy glow I've created and locks it in all day.
Here's the finished look!
