Depending on your skin type, the winter can seriously wreak havoc on your skin. I'm sure in the midst googling home remedies and affordable cures, you have been made vulnerable to some false information- this is the world wide web after all.
That's why I'm here!
In this post I am going to be deflating some skin care misconceptions, so that you can have all the tools and truth to have your best skin this season!

MYTH #1- I Don't have to wear sunscreen in the winter
Ah, one of the most frequented dermatology lies. The fact of the matter is that you and I both know, that the sun doesn't disappear just because the snow has come in. The UV Index may not have as severe a rating, but nonetheless Mr. Sun will be sure to

  • Darken your hyperpigmentation
  • Make your skin more prone to carcinoma (skin cancer)
  • Increase skin blotches

I recommend the Glossier 'Invisible Shield' sunscreen. It is sheer, has a serum like consistency, lightweight feel and absolutely no white cast. P.S It's SPF 35. You can shop with @medicalmyanne on Instagram via this link to get an incredible discount!

MYTH #2- If I use a facial oil, my skin will not produce as much oil
If you have taken anatomy, biology a life science class- or more vastly this term is even used in finances, I am sure you have heard of a feedback loop. If not, a feedback loop is a term that is used for referring to the path in which an output of a system, is returned to the input. In this situation, this  myth is disproven by the fact that there is no feedback loop that will notify your skin to alter its oil production. So feel free to serum up and moisturize to your heart's content!

MYTH #3- Alcohol is an absolute no-go on skin: especially during the winter!
I can see the logic on this one. At a point in my life, I thought that alcohol was the utmost opposite of a skin care holy grail. However, it just isn't that deep! The truth is that alcohol can dry your skin out- but the damage is minimal to none from there. Alcohol can actually be considered as something to add into your routine, maybe once a week, depending on your skin type. A good one would be Propyl Alcohol, as it is less harsh than others. Using alcohol in your routine can allow heavy creams and moisturizers to penetrate evenly and efficiently, as well as dry in award winning time.
MYTH #4- Natural products are more ideal than other products
This is false because it has been proven that natural products are actually more likely to have irritants and allergens. They are usually chock full of many complex ingredients and fragrances that just shouldn't have a place on your skin. It's more than okay to stick to your routine, rid of 'natural' products. Your synthetic products contain single-chemical ingredients.

MYTH #5- I shouldn't wear makeup because my pores need to breathe
Your pores don't take in breaths! Our pores send oil to the epidermal surface and let swear out of the skin. What really leads to the breakouts from makeup, is not cleansing properly. Be sure to use a good makeup remover and cleanser when you do choose to wear makeup! All of the dirt and oil from the day's makeup can get trapped on your skin and then lead to breakouts.

I hope that I helped you debunk some skin care myths today! Feel free to comment below with any common skin misconceptions that you know of!
