The Balancing Act: Jesus + Beauty/Fashion

Romans 2:12---> "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."

In a world full of Instagram models, television stars and a society constantly telling us how to look and be, it can be so hard to keep our eyes completely on Jesus. However, God never said that all of His children shouldn't look good, or dress well- it's all about always putting Him first, above the newest trend.

Sometimes we spend so much time on social media and gain absolutely nothing from it (guilty!). What would happen if we stopped focusing on the newest styles and beauty routines, and sought God? Well, it is a promise we would only receive peace. It's so easy to feel great about ourselves, when we see ourselves through the lens of Christ and not a camera lens.  If you need to take a social media hiatus, and delve into the Word of God and learn what He says about you and not the world, do so! It's a much better feeling to be able to be comfortable in our own skin and have enough confidence to not feel insecure.

If you already understand this concept, let's learn to focus on Jesus before Sephora. God made us in His image, so it's already a given that we are tremendously and undoubtedly stunning. The thing is, this doesn't mean that we can't wear makeup or cute clothes! Always be sure however, that what we wear and how we show ourselves, is glorifying to God. To some it may sound cheesy, but modest really is hottest. Our body is a temple that God gifted to us, it is only fair and right to dress modestly and not expose all of our parts.

We have got to be so careful not to let all of the earthly distractions keep us from being proud of how we're made and who we are. Social media, clothes and beauty do not define us- the Word of God does. This doesn't disqualify the beautiful people we see on our timelines though. The presence of another woman's beauty is not the absence of our own. When you are beyond comfortable with how God made you (in His image), you'll find it super easy to compliment another girl instead of envying her.

Through the Word of God and through prayer, God promises to literally "renew" our minds.
So let's not get thrown off by what the world throws at us, but rest in the confidence our Heavenly Father gave us. We can still be stylish and trendy, but just more aware of the fact that this world is not our home, and that it will all fade away one day. We have but One hope, He is eternal.

stay blessed,
rebecca.
